The harvest of carrots has been less successful. Under good conditions, the vast majority of carrots intended for cooling have now been harvested. In the trade, it is just a matter of twiddling your thumbs. The demand is not there yet.
The carrot harvest is well under way and that is also noticeable in the trade. Parties that are now offered are generally a few loads that no longer fit in the cooling or it concerns the last off-land plots. Growers do not have many options for that and the washers know that too. The top price is certainly not paid for such parties. Good carrots for storage are not traded much. Both buyers and sellers have had their chance.
The fact that washers are not very keen to buy more carrots has everything to do with the limited demand from Eastern Europe. There is sufficient local product there and in terms of price, Dutch carrots are simply lagging behind. From next week, colder weather is on the way to Europe. Large-scale severe frost would stimulate the demand for Dutch carrots. Although the mercury is dropping towards zero degrees, we will remain above that according to the weather models.
The DCA Listing b- and c-carrots takes a step back this week and comes out at €13 to €15 per 100 kilos. That concerns good carrots. Carrots that for whatever reason have to be sold, try to get them cheaper. €10 is already doing that, but those are not the volumes.
