Sorters have had more than enough work for over a month. However, the onion export figures show a somewhat more fickle picture. It goes with peaks and troughs and the latest export figure clearly shows a peak.
In week 44, 39.292 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is almost 5.000 tons more than the five-year average for this week and even 13.000 more than last year this week. The total this season so far amounts to 466.170 tons. That puts us 41.000 tons ahead of last year and we have surpassed the export in 2019.
Senegal was by far the most important destination for Dutch onions in week 10.073 with 44 tonnes. Ivory Coast follows at a considerable distance, buying 5.161 tonnes of onions. Mali is in third place with 3.273 tonnes. A total of 87 different countries bought Dutch onions. At the bottom of the list this week are Switzerland and Nigeria, both good for an export of 10 kilos of onions.
