The onion export this season has its ups and downs. That is also the case in the week where after a very good week the export figure takes a step back. The figures also show the dominant position of Africa.
In week 45, 32.141 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is a step back after the more than 39.000 tons of week 44. The average export figure over the last six weeks is 34.000 tons. Perhaps we should conclude that the total sorting capacity has decreased somewhat, because sorters had no complaints about work at the beginning of November. In total, 45 tons of onions have been exported this season up to and including week 498.354.
This week, not Senegal but Ivory Coast is by far the largest buyer with 7.412 tonnes. Senegal imported 3.654 tonnes of Dutch onions. With that, these two countries account for about a third of the weekly export. Belgium is in third place this week with an import of 2.640 tonnes.
