It takes some getting used to after weeks with an export of over 40.000 tons, but in the last week of 2024 no records were broken. That is not surprising in the week in which Christmas fell. If you convert it to a full working week, then it is considered a good export figure.
In week 52, 21.556 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This means that exports have more than halved compared to week 51. The five-year average for week 52 is 22.699 tons and last season 14.840 tons were exported this week. In total, 764.980 tons of onions were exported in the first half of the season. This means that this season's exports have narrowly surpassed those of 2022/23 and are now in third place in terms of largest exports ever.
In export per country, old and familiar Senegal and Ivory Coast are in first and second place with 7.545 and 4.216 tonnes respectively. Indonesia follows behind, importing 1.901 tonnes of onions from the Netherlands. In week 52, 74 countries were buyers of Dutch onions.
