The start of 2025 was not the most spectacular for Dutch onion exporters. The moderate mood that took hold of the market from the second half of January is confirmed in the export figures.
In week 5, 17.864 tons of onions crossed the border, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for week 5 is 19.495 tons, but last year, with 16.493 tons, even fewer onions were exported. In total, 883.598 tons of onions were exported this season.
Great Britain was the largest buyer of Dutch onions with 2.085 tonnes. Mauritania is in second place with 1.782 followed by Guinea that bought 1.397 tonnes of onions from the Netherlands. In total, 82 countries were on the market for Dutch onions in week 5.
