The downward trend in onion exports that started at the beginning of this year has been broken. In week 7, exports increased compared to the previous week. We have not yet reached 20.000 tonnes, but the most recent export figure is very close.
In week 7, 19.768 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is more than 2.000 tons more than the export in week 6. The five-year average for week 7 is 18.477 tons and last year this week 14.792 tons were exported. In total, 921.457 tons of onions were exported this season.
Great Britain was the largest buyer of onions with 2.619 tonnes. In second place is an old acquaintance, namely Ivory Coast with 1.699 tonnes. Guinea is number three with an import of 1.427 tonnes. Six countries bought more than 1.000 tonnes of Dutch onions in week 7. In total, 79 countries were on the market for onions from the Netherlands and at the very bottom of the list this week is Estonia with an import of 5 kilos.
