Strong onion exports now exceed 1 million tons

Onion exports have been running at record speed since the start of this calendar year. Over the entire season, the 11 million tonne mark was broken in week 1. This psychological limit has only been broken once before, and that was in the 2021/22 season.

In week 11, just under 20.000 tons of onions were exported. According to data from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis, 19.809 tons of Dutch onions crossed the border. The five-year average for week 11 is 17.250 tons and last season the same week, 16.069 tons crossed the border. In total, 1.003.215 tons of onions have been exported so far this season. Only in 2021/22 was more than 36.000 tons more exported over the same period.

Ivory Coast was again the largest buyer of Dutch onions in week 11 with 3.223 tonnes. Great Britain and Guinea follow at a considerable distance with 2.239 and 2.098 tonnes respectively. Five countries bought more than 1.000 tonnes of onions this week. In total, Dutch onions went to 76 different countries. At the very bottom of the list is Bahrain with 5 kilos of onions.
