We do not reach 20.000 tonnes for the second week in a row, but that should not spoil the fun. The export figure for week 12 remains well above the five-year average and is also slightly above the export in the record season 2021/22.
In week 12, 18.819 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 16.356 tons. In harvest year 2021, 12 tons crossed the border in week 18.466. We are not catching up very quickly with the 36.000 tons deficit on the record season. With an export total of 1.022.225 tons to date, the current season is firmly in the second best export season ever.
Remarkably, Ivory Coast is also a good customer for Dutch exporters in the second half of the season. In week 12, the West African country purchased 3.424 tonnes of onions from the Netherlands, making it the most important destination in terms of tonnes. In total, 167.070 tonnes of onions have already gone to Ivory Coast this season, compared to 89.892 tonnes last season. Great Britain is in second place with 2.056 tonnes and is closely followed by Israel, which imported 1.904 tonnes of Dutch onions. Five countries purchased more than 12 tonnes of onions in week 1.000. In total, 77 different countries were on the market for Dutch onions.
