Onion exports have been stable and good in recent weeks. This will not change in week 16. On the one hand, this is not a surprise, but then again, it is a bit. Good Friday fell in this week.
In week 16, 18.936 tons of onions were exported, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. That is approximately 2.500 tons more than last year and the five-year average this week. In total, 1.097.134 tons of onions were exported this season. This means that this season is 35.000 tons behind 2021/22, the best export season ever.
Broken down by buyer, there are few surprises this week. Great Britain imported 2.460 tons of onions, making it the most important buyer this week. Italy is in second place with 1.855 tons. Spain follows, which imported 1.630 tons of Dutch onions. Europe is and remains by far the most important sales market for Dutch onions. Two destinations in the top 10 are outside the European continent. Incidentally, the onions went to 73 countries. Jordan is at the very bottom of the list, with an import of 10 kilos.
