After a very weak export in week 22 for the Dutch onion exporters, the export has recovered somewhat in week 23. Records are certainly not broken, but almost 1.500 tons more has been exported.
The export figure for onions in week 23 is 9.378 tons, according to the figures from KCB/GoentenFruit Huis. A week earlier, exports stagnated at 7.904 tons. The five-year average for week 23 is 11.030 tons. Week 23 was the week before Pentecost, which is why some sorters may have brought some work forward.
The European hegemony in Dutch onion exports is slowly being broken. Great Britain was still the most important destination for Dutch onions with 1.453 tonnes. However, Guinea and Ivory Coast follow closely behind with 1.437 and 1.177 tonnes respectively. These are also the only countries that purchased more than 1.000 tonnes. In total, 51 countries were buyers of Dutch onions in week 23.
