Onion exports have been somewhat sluggish in recent weeks. The latest export figures for week 26 don't change that. Looking at the entire season, there's little reason to complain in terms of export volume.
In week 26, 5.341 tons of onions crossed the border, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. The five-year average for this week is 10.177 tons. Great Britain was by far the largest buyer this week, with 2.042 tons, followed by Guinea with 580 tons and Germany, which bought 421 tons of Dutch onions.
West Africa dominates exports
Over the entire 2024/25 season, 1.238.272 tons of onions were exported. Only in the 2021/22 season were onions exported, at 1,3 million tons. Nearly 30% of Dutch exports this season went to two West African countries. Senegal, with 181.152 tons, was the largest customer for Dutch exporters, closely followed by Ivory Coast with 179.816 tons. Great Britain ranked third in the season's total with 114.436 tons.
Over the entire season, Dutch onions shipped to 126 different countries. At the very bottom of the list is the British Virgin Islands, with a season total of 29 kilos.
