Records aren't being broken yet in the first weeks of the onion export season, but they're gaining momentum. Weekly exports are approaching the five-year average.
In week 29, 13.598 tons of Dutch onions crossed the border, according to figures from KCB/GroentenFruit Huis. This is 100 tons more than last week, but exports are still 150 tons below the five-year average. A total of 29.181 tons of onions have been exported this season, which is virtually the same as last season.
In week 29, Ivory Coast was by far the largest buyer of onions from the Netherlands, with 3.163 tons. Great Britain and Gambia followed with 1.773 and 1.528 tons, respectively. Besides Great Britain, France and Sweden also made the top 10 this week. The remaining destinations are exclusively African.
