Total exports rose to 526.000 tons in the third week of October, according to preliminary figures from the KCB and GroentenFruit Huis. This represents a 100.000-ton increase compared to last year. This means nearly a quarter more was exported than in the same weeks of the 2024-2025 season.

In week 43, Senegal remains the largest buyer, although exports to this country, at 9.375 tons, are also lower than in previous weeks. Total exports to this West African country have now risen to 114.000 tons. This quantity is 40.000 tons higher than in the same period a year ago. This means Senegal has a significant share in this year's increased exports.

The same applies to Ivory Coast. The 7.400 tons in week 43 brings total exports to that country closer to 100.000 tons. This means Ivory Coast imported almost a third more than in the same weeks last year.

Britain
Great Britain is 'still going strongThe British are buying more than 3.000 tons of onions a week, which means sales are also outpacing last year. By the end of October, these exports will surpass 50.000 tons. This makes this onion flow almost a quarter higher than last year, when approximately 40.000 tons were purchased in 17 weeks.

Another notable finding in week 43 is that Mauritania and Malaysia actually bought more onions compared to the previous week. The latter is one of the few major destinations that purchased slightly fewer onions than last year. Belgium is also importing fewer onions. This may be related to the possibility that Africa is being served less via Belgium.
