Prime Minister and VVD leader Mark Rutte did not expect a warm bath on Monday when he talked to about 100 farmers in Beerze, near Ommen. Some farmers were simply angry, writes the Stentor who was present at this meeting.
In exchange for a Ministry of Agriculture, many farmers are quite willing to vote for the VVD during the parliamentary elections to be held on 15 March, it emerged on Monday afternoon. However, Rutte did not want to be burned by this promise. Rutte was put to the test on Monday afternoon. Rutte was also gently reminded of the fact that agriculture has been surrendered to the left-wing PvdA in the past four years. 'A party that has nothing to do with the agricultural sector', was what the audience said.
In a response, Rutte indicated that he will do everything he can to ensure that a VVD member will take care of agricultural policy, provided that the VVD will of course come to the table during the upcoming formation talks.
