The name of CDA member Jaco Geurts is mentioned in Brussels as the new state secretary of agriculture. However, he is not the only candidate. Many other names pass by in the corridors.
It is very early, because the formation negotiations for a new cabinet only started on Monday, but there is already plenty of speculation in the corridors about the intended successor of Martijn van Dam. The name of also circulates in those corridors Jacob Geurts, agricultural spokesperson for the CDA and tenth on the electoral list.
In Brussels, Jaco Geurts is named as the new State Secretary for Economic Affairs (agriculture and nature).

This is confirmed by various sources upon inquiry. Annie Schreijer-Pierik says: 'So many people are mentioned, but I would consider him one of the better candidates. He has proven to have knowledge of the sector and has a broad perspective.'
Another source from Brussels who wishes to remain anonymous responds: 'I hear several names going around, including that of Jaco Geurts.' The story is not known within LTO and MEP Jan Huitema of the VVD has not heard anything about it either.
