What questions do you have for Von Martels?

28 March 2017 - Herma van den Pol - 8 comments

Maurice von Martels. He started his journey towards the House of Representatives in position number 44 of the CDA electoral list. Thanks to preferential votes, place 44 could be exchanged for position number 4. He can rightly be called a public favourite. We learned a lot about him in recent weeks, but if you still have urgent questions or new questions, this is your chance to ask them.

Von Martels continues to milk the, say, 100 cows of the dairy farm on Sundays. He will also remain alderman of Dalfsen until April 28, 2017. After that, the lion's share of his time goes to his new work in the House of Representatives. The 21.150 preference votes resulted in place number 4 on the CDA candidate list. This makes him probably the only active farmer in the House of Representatives.

The cases keep piling up
Meanwhile, the cases that need an answer keep piling up. Mention the proposed legislation on animal numbers, the discussions about the nitrates directive, an answer in the lease file, but also the attention that is paid to the situation in slaughterhouses.

A motion on compulsory grazing was already rejected by outgoing state secretary Martijn van Dam. But there is also the question of what the agricultural sector has to offer the so-called young generation. This did not even address the profit that GroenLinks managed to achieve.

For example, if Von Martels opts for the post of sports, care and welfare, there is still an interface with the agricultural sector. Because it is increasingly sounding that good health does not start with good medicines, but with a good basis through nutrition.

Facilitate, support and limit
Whatever Von Martels wants to get rid of is the 'mop policy'. There must also be an end to 'the scoring drive that leads to nothing'. What politicians should do is facilitate, support and limit.

How can we get the space on the livestock farms as quickly as possible to fulfill the application standards as much as possible with organic manure? We now incur twice the costs for too much manure removal and, on the other hand, unnecessary fertilizer supply.

As of 2017, can we obtain agreement based on the recycling administration to be able to attune the fertilization standards to the crop yields in order to at least maintain soil health? With the current maximum standards, we are mixing up the soil. This is at odds with sustainability.

The CDA has always had a good agricultural spokesperson (jacco Geurts). How does Mr. Martels think to deal with it if the CDA appoints him as spokesperson, for example, public housing?

it is certainly to be hoped that this new agricultural face in the second chamber will delve into his own profession; there is definitely a serious need for it.....

In recent years there has been a dramatic cold remediation in pig farming in particular. That while the problem of low prices is partly caused by politics. In cattle farming, the problem is caused by excessive production expansion by a large part of the dairy farmers themselves. At the dairy farm there was immediately a large pot of money available for the cold remediation of the pig farm nothing 0,0. How does he intend to prevent this kind of double standard (in the future)?

The basic principles with regard to the phosphate policy are a difficult one and are disastrous for many farmers. It is unbearable that 160.000 animals are being slaughtered. We believe that politicians are pursuing policies that make no one happy. The strange thing is, many companies have met the excretion standard for years and are now also obliged to cull animals. Also "must" comply with 80% mandatory permanent grassland. The arable sector has thus been hijacked. In the hope that Mr. von Martels understands and can change the policy in practice. What is your answer to this?

What kind of ties does von Martels have with LTO, or what does he think of the policy pursued in recent years?
What would von Martels like to do about companies that have grown explosively between 1-4-2015 and 2-7-2015 and are now not being cut, while companies that have not grown but are not land-bound are being cut?
Is that the solidarity of the LTO?
I expect a detailed answer, thanks in advance.

Arable farming really wants to use manure, but is strongly discouraged by processing and export, so we have to supply fertilizer, not sustainable, not logical; do you want to commit yourself to this?

@dramos good question, also curious.

I would like to see from his side that he is committed, that the cooperation between Agriculture and Nature can be seen as something positive in the countryside. Removing rules and gaining a healthy influence on city politicians, I hope he succeeds in this in collaboration with Jacco Geurts.
Entrepreneurs in the countryside are always positive about nature and that it is forced on us by the emotions of citizen groups that we are not. Arable farming naturally wants to fertilize, we want our animals outside. Who will bring them in? Rules. Why does the cow disappear in the meadow Rules. Killing animals that should have lived next year Rules! There is less phosphate than calculated by office clerks, We have and it is not there. Remove the ability to Deploy Rules Earlier. Why do we need to get bigger Rules they determine the feasibility of companies too much. It can be side by side that must be the drive.
