Limburg farmer is in danger of dying out

19 April 2017 - Wouter Baan

The farmland in Limburg threatens to empty the fastest. Limburg farmers have the fewest expansion plans. Also, there is often no successor available. This is apparent from a study by agricultural market research agency AgriDirect.

Of all Dutch provinces, Limburg is the province where, relatively speaking, most farmers stop. More than 8 percent of farmers plan to throw in the towel. Only a quarter (26,9 percent) say they have a successor.

Drenthe remains standing
Drenthe is the province where the 'depopulation' is the least fast. Here, more than 40 percent of the farmers are counting on the company being taken over. About 1 in 5 farmers in Drenthe have expansion plans. The growth ambitions are lowest in North Holland. Here, about 1 in 7 farmers plans to grow.
