20 May 2017 - Kimberly Bakker - 3 comments

How many agricultural companies with more than 100 acre were added in 2016? And where are those agricultural companies located? Those questions are answered in a new Top 5 of Boerenbusiness, compiled by Statistics Netherlands (CBS).

The municipality of Noordoostpolder had in 2015 68 agricultural companies with more than 100 acre. The municipality thus led the list of 100 acre Dutch farmers. In 2016, the municipality had to give up that place to the municipality of Oldambt. The municipality has made a significant increase. In 2015, Oldambt had 65 farms with more than 100 acres. In 2016, that number increased to 72 agricultural companies.

I continue to find this a strange way of journalism. The NOP is the largest municipality in the Netherlands. Of which perhaps 90% is agricultural use. It makes sense that that's where most of the farmers are. Why not number +100 acre of farmers as a percentage of total? Now it seems that they are all Toppers in the NOp.
