The first cracks have appeared in President Macron's French cabinet, where honesty is paramount. Just over a month after the cabinet was appointed, President Macron has had to fire 4 of his ministers. This is due to fraud.
Richard Ferrand, the Minister for Territorial Cohesion, was fired on Monday 19 June. He is suspected of real estate fraud and may face prosecution.
Not the only one
In the days that followed, Sylvie Goulard (Ministry of Defence), François Bayrou (Ministry of Justice) and Marielle de Sarnez (Ministry of European Affairs) were also able to pack their things.
These 3 ministers, from coalition partner Modem, committed fraud with various assistants in the European Parliament. These assistants did not work in Brussels or Strasbourg (as has been said), but were actually in Paris.
Travert new Minister of Agriculture
These incidents lead to the necessary shifts within the French cabinet. One of these is that the current Minister of Agriculture, Jacques Mézard, will transfer to the Ministry of Territorial Cohesion. Stephane Travert takes his place. Travert joined En Marche, Macron's party, in October and is a former socialist.
Election promise fulfilled
On his last day as agriculture ministers, Jacques Mézard managed to push through his election promise. His spearhead and priority was to quickly pay out CAP support to farmers. According to him, many farmers have encountered financial difficulties as a result of late payments. Just before his departure, Mézard managed to record the new payment arrangement and associated date.
