Half has decided

Arable farmer has doubts about LLB expansion

10 July 2017 - Niels van der Boom - 24 comments

With 10 days to go, about half of all sugar beet growers in the Netherlands still have to decide whether they want to expand next year. If they don't, they will grow less sugar beet next year. According to the beet processor, there is enough enthusiasm.

From 20 June, sugar beet growers will have the opportunity to purchase additional LLBs for €5,50 each. This means that at least 3% can be expanded in acreage. This is possible because Cosun has increased the number of LLBs by 8%. Those who do not cherish expansion plans will have to give up 4,5% in allocation next year. Isn't that a punishment for satisfied growers? Gert Sikken, director of agricultural affairs at Suiker Unie, told: Boerenbusiness rather not.

96

percent

wants to expand beet cultivation, says Cosun

96 or 55 percent?
From its own 'research', Cosun concludes that 96% is interested in expanding, so writes it itself. on a small Boerenbusiness in. responded 244 people. 55%, good for 134 people, indicated that they wanted to expand. 54 people do not like it and 56 people indicated that they have not yet decided. Cosun also reports that half of all interested parties want to expand even more than 8%. The LLBs that remain are distributed among the growers who want to expand further.

Area 88.000 hectares
On the basis of the Combined Statement, the CBS known that 85.450 hectares of sugar beet will be grown in the Netherlands this year. An increase of almost 15.000 hectares. This means that in 2018 the acreage will theoretically reach 88.000. That is far from a record. Before 2004 the Dutch beet acreage amounted to more than 100.000 hectares. The CBS figures also showed that less wheat was sown in particular, in favor of beets.

Buy 8% more to expand 3%; what a bunch of rascals they are. And according to Cosun, 96% of farmers fall for this. What a stupid people!!!

What's wrong with that, is still a great opportunity to expand in this super crop.

We should be a little more grateful to our cooperatives.
Compared to other sugar clubs in Europe, the world and the universe, no one pays that much.

I hope I can get some extra, above 8%. I still want to grow.
I'm in the process of renting land near me to sow the extra beets.

If 96% of the farmers do this, it really won't be such a stupid move.
At least this is still a real cooperative feeling. They could also have said, everyone can register for the highest price.

XXX exactly, nail on the head.
Now we have fair odds, and the odds are divided.

That's what I like about cosun, and with Aviko's profit on the side, we have a nice thick sandwich

Beets for 3.8ct/kg, store, drag with cloths, and a tare contribution. Rest of the EU, the rent is not €2500 but average. €375

Who had in the opening about rascals, dear fries?! To prevent this nonsense, it is good that enough LLBs are issued so that the tax authorities do not run away with the money of the young farmers!

Cosun acted smartly and neatly in this regard. It says more about yourself if you start calling them rascals than it says something about Cosun.

it's not neat first let them enlarge you and then again you don't pinch them half of the grown off is actually crazy. and renting land for beets is never possible without being able to rent for less than 500 ..

Bring on those LLBs I want a few more. Going to 800 ha of beet cultivation this year. Super balance and little work. Rent cheap sandy soil in the area under 1000 euros per ha. Sow, spray 3 times, harvest and go 500 euros per ha in the cut.

We want to expand to 1500 ha, are now looking at whether we can rent texel, then we will fill that island, nobody will be bothered by it, moreover we will trade in CO2 rights because our acreage ensures a lot of CO2 absorption.

It is great to read that everyone is behind Cosun and its strategy.
The people there are busy every day trying to achieve the best possible price and return for you as a grower.

That can also be said.

We have colleagues in Belgium who deliver to the factories located there.
They complain stone and bone, low balances.

They do not receive the AVIKO surcharge on their beets.

We are blessed people with such an organization and fellow growers willing to spend time guarding the golden fortress COSUN

It is a pity that the Raad van Beheer is driving a wedge in the cooperative due to the scandalous implementation of the University Library scheme for growers after 2014.

they have followed the rules properly. It is of course annoying if the results are so variable that the benefit differs so much in height, but who could have suspected that in 2000 when the scheme was put on paper.
