Why does the feed market react to European Championship women's football?

8 August 2017 - Erik Colenbrander

The price of various wheat yeast concentrates has been reduced by €0,10 per percent dry matter. Duynie now charges €1,95 to €2,10 for its Protiwanze wheat yeast concentrate, depending on the region. Van Triest Veevoedings charges €2,05 per percent dry matter for its GrainPro wheat yeast concentrate.

Feed value price drops below 70%

What is the cause?
Price differences can be caused by differences in protein content, viscosity and dry matter content. The feed value price has fallen to below 70% due to the price drop. The increasing supply is the main cause of the price drop. Bioethanol producers have increased production after a shortage arose in the early summer.

Developments on the grain market have not contributed to the price reduction, even though developments follow each other at a rapid pace. The JRC MARS Institute adjusted downwards the yield forecast at the end of July, based on satellite observations and reports from observers in the various regions.

Persistent drought
The persistent drought in large parts of Southern and Eastern Europe is the cause. The grain harvest has failed in Spain, but disaster is also threatening in Italy due to rapidly rising food prices. The picture in Central and Eastern Europe, where most grain maize is grown, is less dramatic for the time being. The report comes from Germany that a large part of the grain area is no longer suitable for processing into bread due to heavy rainfall at the end of July.

High season for beer breweries is almost over

European Football Championship
The weather in our own country is in stark contrast to the persistent heat along the Mediterranean Sea. The end of summer is in sight. Duynie has increased the price of spent grain by €0,10 per percent dry matter. The high season for the beer breweries is also coming to an end and the successful European Championship for women's football is over.

The price of products from the potato processing industry is not yet changing, although the new harvest of potatoes will not be long in coming. Feed potatoes have not or hardly been traded for several months. It is still unclear whether there will be a shortage of feed potatoes this year, just like last year. This is because the potato starch industry can probably use anything, just like last year.
