CDA MEP Annie Schreijer-Pierik wants quick clarification about the approach to the fipronil crisis. In addition, she asks for support for the affected poultry farmers. She has put questions about this to the European Commission.
Annie Schreijer-Pierik wants to know exactly when and in which countries fipronil was first diagnosed. She also wants to know when this was reported. "The European Commission must therefore provide an accurate reconstruction of the course, the approach and the facts of all countries."
Joint approach
There is a lot of confusion about the approach. Schreijer-Pierik wants to know whether 1 joint approach has been used. "While it concerns European standards and laws, not all countries have used the same calculations and measures." She wants an answer from the EU Commissioner for Food Safety and Health. However, it has become clear that the Netherlands applies the strictest standards. "The Dutch eggs that are now on the market meet all standards in any case."
Financial support
Finally, she has asked the European Commission to come up with emergency financial support. This support must, in addition to national aid, come. After all, European support measures were also affected in an earlier agricultural and horticultural crisis, such as the EHEC affair in 2011. "The fipronil affair continues to be a huge disaster for the affected poultry farmers in the European Union. Healthy family businesses must not collapse as a result of this affair."
