Subsidies available for farmer innovations

21 August 2017 - Bart-Jan van Zandwijk

Farmers in the provinces of Utrecht and South Holland who want to invest in innovation and modernization can receive a subsidy from Monday 21 August. The scheme is open until mid-October 2017.

The provinces Utrecht en Zuid-Holland want to use this scheme to encourage farmers to make sustainable investments that have added value for the company. The subsidy is being opened up within the framework of the European Rural Development Program (POP3). The other provinces are no longer open.

The province of Utrecht finances this subsidy and makes a total of €1 million available. South Holland has made €3 million available.

The subsidy is a maximum of 40% of the costs

When are farmers eligible?
The investment is eligible for subsidy if it meets a number of themes. These themes are: the development of new revenue models and market concepts, better management of production risks and improvement of animal welfare and animal health. In addition, measures that lead to less use of raw materials and closed cycles are also eligible.

Amount of subsidy
The subsidy is a maximum of 40% of the costs that are eligible for subsidy. These costs are a minimum of €25.000 and a maximum of €100.000. To be eligible for the subsidy, the costs must therefore amount to at least €62.500. With multiple investments (up to a maximum of 3), the investment per part is at least €20.000.

Application period
Subsidy can be applied for in the period from 21 August 2017 to 20 October 2017 in the province of Utrecht and in South Holland until 18 October. The application can be submitted to RVO.nl.

Assessment request
The application is assessed on the basis of a number of criteria. These are effectiveness, how innovative a product is, its cost effectiveness and also the chance of success. Points are awarded to these criteria. To be eligible for a subsidy, at least 18 points must be obtained.
