Minister of Agriculture is in the making

A minister of Agriculture and Food will most likely take a seat in the new Rutte III cabinet. This is apparent from inquiries with various sources involved in the formation.

When the new cabinet is formed, a Minister of Agriculture is taken into account. This minister will not have his own department, but he will have his own budget. In addition to Agriculture, Food also falls under this ministerial post. 

The CDA is working in collaboration with representatives from agriculture and horticulture on filling the post. The Rutte III cabinet is expected to present itself in the first or second week of October.

More 'farming feeling'
The agricultural representatives expect that the new Minister of Agriculture will radiate more 'farmer feeling'. The new minister will also be an ambassador for agriculture and horticulture abroad.

The minister will also keep an eye on the various branches of industry in the agricultural sector and further implement the policy that has been initiated regarding phosphate, making livestock farming more sustainable, closing mineral cycles, soil fertility, obtaining the derogation, and giving substance to the sixth Action Programme. and the National Raw Materials Agreement 2017.

Also would a climate minister are explicitly addressed.

Up to 2010 
The Netherlands had a Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV), or a similar name, from 1935 to 2010. Agricultural education and WUR also fell under this ministry.

Since 2010, after the formation of the Rutte I cabinet, agriculture has been transferred to the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation. When the Rutte II cabinet was formed, the name was shortened to Ministry of Economic Affairs.
