This means a price of €40 per tonne of product, assuming more than 200 kilos of dry matter per cubic meter and a dry matter percentage of 30% to 35%. The price does not include costs for contractor and transport. The trade in silage maize has also started on marktplaats. In the south of the Netherlands, prices of €1.600 to €2.200 per hectare are being asked.

Customs rates increased for a reason

Increase in volume?
Due to the very high yield forecast, there is a good chance that this year will see an increase in the volume of CCM for the first time in a long time. Although the price of grain maize is also relatively low. The European Union (EU) has not for nothing increased the customs tariffs for imports from outside the EU. The German DLG reports record yields in the Black Sea region for, among other things, grain and grain maize.

In addition, there is a demand for silage maize in the south of the Netherlands from Belgium, where the yield does not exceed the long-term average. This is due to the very dry first half of the growing season. Stocks are still tight there, because of the flooding last year.

Greater contrast in the south of the Netherlands
In the south of the Netherlands, a greater contrast is hardly conceivable in terms of growing season. The abundant rainfall could still have caused problems for the harvest, but especially in the areas where a lot of silage maize is grown, relatively little rain has fallen, which has reduced the harvest risk. There is also the possibility of a lot of rain again at the end of this week.

Last year, there was a lot of demand for by-products in the south of the Netherlands due to the waterlogging during the growing season and the crop failure. The suppliers of wet animal feed are therefore taking into account that demand will come under pressure this year.
