The Minister of Economic Affairs, Henk Kamp, has allocated €150 million to the realization of mono-manure digesters on farms. Kamp announced this in a letter to the House of Representatives on Wednesday 13 September.
With these mono-manure digesters, manure can be converted into renewable energy, such as green gas, electricity or heat. The digesters are good for the energy consumption of a total of 11.000 households. In addition, they contribute to the target of 14% renewable energy by 2020.
reduce CO2 emissions
The government wants CO2 emissions to be reduced to almost zero by 2050. This solution contributes to that. "With the realization of mono-manure digesters, we kill several birds with one stone. This way we prevent greenhouse gas emissions from manure and we are able to use the manure for the production of renewable energy. An average digester provides sufficient gas and electricity for about 0 households. Camp said.
Reduce cost
The Sustainable Energy Incentive Scheme (SDE+) encourages agricultural companies to produce sustainable energy. Minister Kamp has opened a separate tender for mono-manure digesters. The tender, which was announced at the end of 2016, shows that the sector expects the cost price to fall to €0,12 per kWh. At the moment, the cost price is still above €0,20 per kWh and therefore more expensive than many other renewable energy options.
