ExxonMobile will pay out approximately €20 million to farmers and horticulturists affected by the Esso fire. LTO finds the arrangement lenient and correct and therefore advises them to agree to it.
According to Jan Varenkamp, chairman of the LTO Noord Voorne-Putten department, the agreement offers a solution for most of the damage suffered. "ExxonMobile has done what they promised. I appreciate that very much. The individual farmers have yet to go through the details and sign. But I advise and expect that they agree, because I have not heard any other voices yet. The claim settlement is simply handled quickly and neatly."
Promise fulfilled
Esso is also satisfied. She has engaged a logistics company that removes all affected crops. Part of the harvest is fermented into bioenergy and heat, and another part is processed into compost for agriculture.
"We have found a good solution with LTO Noord to deal with the damage to the farmers in the area. They have worked hard on this harvest for a season. With this arrangement we fulfill our promise to them that we will quickly repair the damage suffered. and adequately compensate," said Harro van de Rhee, director of the ExxonMobil refinery in Rotterdam.
