The coalition agreement has been well received by interest representatives. For example, the POV is very pleased with the fact that the new coalition is making €200 million available for warm remediation in pig farming. The COV still hopes for a strong minister.
Dé van de Riet, press officer of the COV, is satisfied with the coalition agreement. According to him, it is not surprising that the government wants to make it more sustainable, but it is logical and necessary. It is important that the new government recognizes that the Netherlands is the second largest agricultural and food exporter. Van de Riet: "This offers a solid foundation to build on. The coming years will be dominated by finding a balance between the ecological and the economic agenda."
strong minister
The COV is pleased with the fact that European legislation is leading in the field of animal welfare. "As a result, the international competitive position in Europe remains the same." In addition to the legal requirements, there is also room for market forces.
The COV hopes that the new policy will be propagated by a strong minister. "It is important that agriculture is proudly represented in The Hague. Not only at foreign fairs, but also in our own country." The political colour, position (secretary of state or minister) and person are secondary. According to the COV, the underlying policy is more important than whether or not there is a ministerial post.
Money for remediation
The Producers Organization for Pig Farming (POV) is pleased with the fact that €2 million will be made available over the next 200 years for a warm remediation in pig farming. According to POV chairman Ingrid Jansen, the blueprint of the new government fits in seamlessly with the objectives of the Vitalization Pig Farming Action Plan.
With these millions, there is a budget to link companies with no future prospects in livestock-laden areas to future-oriented companies. An example of such a region is Southeast Brabant. Producers Organization Pig Farming wants to talk to the government and the relevant provinces about how to spend the money wisely. Both the interests of farmers and citizens must be given a voice in this process.
Money for young farmers
The new cabinet says it is committed to food security. According to the Netherlands Agricultural Youth Contact (NAJK), considerable investments are required for this. The NAJK is therefore very pleased that the cabinet is making €75 million available for young farmers and horticulturists. This is desperately needed for business takeovers and development, given that progress is secured in only 40% of the companies.
The Dutch Feed Industry Association (Nevedi) also applauds the extra money being earmarked for young farmers and the warm reorganization of pig farming. The trade association wonders to what extent this will contribute to the development of farms.
However, in the field of health and food safety, a chain-wide approach works better than introducing a new climate law, according to Nevedi.
Company specific checkout
It is appreciated that the coalition agreement makes room for an individual approach to entrepreneurs and wants to settle business-specifically. Entrepreneurs should be rewarded when they deal with minerals very efficiently and therefore have reduced emissions, according to the organization.
