'Thank a Farmer Day'

Farmer Consciously thanks farmer through awareness

13 October 2017 - Kimberly Bakker - 7 comments

Today, Friday, October 13, is 'Thank a Farmer Day'. The Boer Bewust Foundation wants more attention to be paid to this in the Netherlands. The organization announced this in a press release.

'Thank a Farmer Day' is already celebrated worldwide. However, not yet in the Netherlands. This while Dutch agriculture plays a very important role in the Dutch economy and in the global food supply.

Important role in the global food supply

Creating awareness
The Boer Bewust Foundation does not want this day to be seen as a day when a 'thank you' is asked from the farmers. Rather, it should be a day to create awareness among consumers about the fact that farmers play a major role in the food supply.

The Dutch farmer guarantees food security. In addition, they invest in innovative developments and environmental solutions. In addition, the farmers account for an export contribution of about €90 billion. About 10% of the Dutch working population is (in)directly involved in agriculture and/or food production. Boer Bewust hopes to make this clear to consumers with 'Thank a Farmer Day'.

Farmer Conscious Foundation
The Boer Bewust Foundation is an initiative of a number of farmers and aims to improve communication between the agricultural sector and consumers. In addition, the foundation sees that consumers are increasingly distant from the agricultural sector. With the advertisements, De Boer Bewust hopes to involve the consumer more with the farmer.

I wish all farmers and horticulturists in the Netherlands that our new government, which will once again have agricultural ministers, will take their wishes into account. Also look at the affected chicken farmers. Why no help for Dutch farmers and horticulturists. For abroad they are usually eager with money.

Dear farmers
The association of former employees pz silenters thanks you for all the years of commitment to all people
We wish you every success in your struggle for a decent living and a decent income.
Do not get bogged down by all kinds of meaningless protest actions and continue with your fantastic work.

All very nice stories, but realize that the arable farmer is currently being paid a price that is below cost price.
Onions 0,06 cents per kg of potatoes 0,08 cents per kilo of wheat 0,13 cents all this below cost price and then you have to look at the prices in the store.
There appears to be a lot to earn between the grower and the consumer.

Simon prices are not correct. potatoes do 0.03 if you can find a buyer. onions do 0.10 dry from barn and grain 0.16 so everything is not too bad.....

How many tons do you want for 9 cents dry from the shed?

Anyone who has lost their heart in 'the farmer's trade' cannot remain indifferent. The employees, volunteers and others at 'Farmers at a Crossroads' have been doing excellent work in Flanders for 10 years, sometimes in extremely difficult and thankless circumstances, to help 'our' farmers out of the misery.
