Falling meat consumption has come to a halt. In 2016, the Dutch ate an average of 76,8 kilograms of meat, a fraction more than in 2015. According to a report by Wageningen University and Research, commissioned by Wakker Dier.
Pork is by far the most popular in the Netherlands. In 2016, an average of 36,5 kilograms of pork was consumed per person. This is virtually the same as in 2015. There was a slight downward trend in previous years. In 10 years, the consumption of pork has decreased by approximately 1 kilo.
Poultry meat is gaining ground
The consumption of poultry meat increased slightly in 2016 to 22,2 kilos. In 10 years, consumption has increased by approximately 1,5 kilos. Beef has also gained some ground in the past year, with an average consumption of 15,4 kilos. Compared to 10 years ago, however, consumption has decreased by 0,7 kilos.
Veal follows, with an average consumption of 1,3 kilos, just a few steps away. The consumption pattern of veal has been stable for years.
