The budget for the removal of asbestos roofs from the ministry has run out. This is confirmed by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO.nl) on Tuesday 31 October.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment has made an amount of €2017 million available for 25. That amount has now been exhausted.
The applications that are still coming in will be postponed to 2018. The exact budget for that year will be announced in November. The compensation is in any case € 4,50 per square meter of asbestos roof.
By 2024 in asbestos-free
The ministry is thus encouraging the removal of asbestos roofs. The goal is that from 2024 all roofs asbestos-free must be. Whether that will work, however, remains to be seen. The specialized companies (that remove the asbestos) are now overstaffed.
In order to limit the risk to health, keeping asbestos roofs is prohibited from 1 January 2024.
