Factories are on the move

Harvesting beets: it has to be done this month

2 November 2017 - Clarisse van der Woude - 10 comments

After the sugar beet processing problems, the factories seem to be on the mend. In the meantime, revenue expectations have also been revised upwards. It is important to harvest all beets before the end of November.

Cosun reports that the processing is proceeding according to plan. "Record processing figures of over 30.000 tons of beets per factory per day are regularly achieved. Correspondingly, record quantities are also supplied per day, sometimes up to 40.000 tons gross per day. With this forecast, the campaign will last until the first week of February."

More than half has yet to be harvested in November

Third harvest processed
A third of the beet harvest has now been processed and about 40% will have been harvested by now, says Cosun. "That means that the other 60% must be harvested in November. After December 1, harvest is risky, due to the risk of frost. Therefore, contractors and growers will have their hands full with the beet harvest this month."

Make optimal use of harvestable days
The cooperative points out to make the most of the days that can be harvested. "Conditions are good this week and the prospects for next week also look good. It would be a shame, and even risky, to stop the harvesters in the coming weeks, with the risk that beets will still have to be harvested at the beginning of December under less favorable conditions. ."

Sugar content up
In the seventh campaign week, the revenue expectations have been adjusted slightly higher. The sugar content is just under 17%, the average tare percentage just under 11%. The carrot yield per hectare is now more than 91 tons and more than 15 tons of sugar per hectare. The quality stabilized last week.

All farmers harvest beets in November, let cosun ensure that they end the campaign in January. Two months in a heap is quite a long time.

before the frost is early enough, 0.15% sugar loss per week calculate how much you are short

Should be delivered early December, but will put them in the heap next Tuesday. Temperature is not too high anymore. Good plowing is very important. Have done this before. Of course there are losses, but dry plowing gives profit again. Take a moment to consider. Good luck with the further harvest.
