The NAK's advisory board is in favor of broadening the B standards on some cosmetic aspects, in particular growth cracks. This takes the discussion, which flared up at the end of 2016, a step further.
The relaxation of some cosmetic aspects mainly concerns growth cracks (from 0,5 centimeters to 1,5 centimeters), pressure spots/blue (from 6% to 12% 'moderate'), soil (from 1% to 2%) and wrinkled tubers (to 1%). The advisory council has a question mark with a relaxation of the Rhizoctonia standard (from 25% light to 25% 'moderate'), because this is not 'cosmetic'.
No support for mixing
The Advisory Council has a clear position on the Erwinia test, namely to continue the integral test of PB and S in 2018. Growers and trade still attach great importance to this.
A proposal for stricter applications in class PB of the standard for mixing is not supported by the advisory board. The standard is already set to '0'. It is recognized that mixing is a current problem.
The standing committee will make a (proposed) decision on 15 November.
