Which agri-companies are in Quote 500?

3 November 2017 - Bart-Jan van Zandwijk - 14 comments

The Quote 500 again contains more agricultural millionaires, namely 51. Last year there were only 38. Boerenbusiness has listed them.

The first person we encounter in the Quote 500 is Wijnand Pon. He is listed in tenth place in the magazine. That was fifth place in 2016. His net worth is approximately €1,8 billion. This puts him well ahead of number 2.

The Fentener-van Vlissingen sisters are in the list

Animal feeds make up the top 6
The next 5 places are formed by the animal feeds. In second to fifth place are the sisters Fentener-van Vlissingen of SHV. They took over Nutreco and have therefore risen considerably in the list. Their assets range from €750 million to €465 million.

They are closely followed by Marthe Fock, also from SVH. She also has a net worth of €465 million.

Bottom of the list
At the back of the magazine we meet Jeroen Zuidberg (tractor parts producer). His net worth is estimated at €71 million. This puts him in place 499 in the magazine. In 494th place is Hans Buys (cattle feed). His net worth is also estimated at €71 million. Last year they were respectively in place 375 and 400. Both gentlemen have fallen considerably in the Quote 500.

Quote Family 50
De Heus ranks highest in the top 50 of wealthiest families. That family has an estimated net worth of $1 billion. This puts them in ninth place in the Family 50.

They are followed by the Van Drie family, with an estimated net worth of around €900 million. This puts them in eleventh place in the magazine. Finally, we meet the Van Ballegooijen family. They are in 190th place with an estimated net worth of €49 million.

These aren't farmers, are they? Title is wrong again.
jan4072 6 November 2017
I miss the MS Schippers family. They had something like 275M last year I think I remember.
I do not know 6 November 2017
Again, none of this is true, these are not farmers, but supply companies or customers or companies that have earned their money outside the sector, such as Pon. VannDrie is well on his way to becoming a billionaire of the few tens we collect for the calves. And complain that the trade is so bad.
DD 6 November 2017
These are not farmers, but people who earn from farmers. You can check how much money disappears from the sector and remains on the bow.

I hope Boerenbusiness realize what effect a misplaced title like the one above can have??!!
Is all too easily and indiscriminately taken over by other media!
Please change the title!!
Teun 6 November 2017
If indeed all this falls under "agriculturalists", then we have many colleagues. Suggestive title and that for an "agricultural medium".

Dear readers, the headline has been edited because it was incorrect. It is the entrepreneurs in the agribusiness that are mentioned in the Quote 500. Those are not the agriculturists, that is, the farmers. These were initially mentioned in the headline of the article.
Piet 6 November 2017
Something has to change quickly in agribusiness and among farmers.

It is important that everyone who works hard in the sector also gains enough from this.

Farmers don't like each other in my region. Not a good buy, certainly not a good sale. Prices are after. Potatoes that only score 4 cents per kilogram.

Take an example, if I ask for an extra 4 cents above the market quote today. Then my colleague or family will tell me that this is not the prize. But who's to say this is true. If you need the plumber at 10pm. Then he probably asks twice.

I work in potato processing and notice that a farmer often does not know what his potatoes are worth.

3 examples.

1. It is wet in summer, only 1 farmer on light soil can harvest with difficulty. For the rest, there is no way to get potatoes.
What does this farmer ask, only the market quotation. I don't think that's smart. The farmer only keeps the factory running half the time. And the free market for fries is outrageously expensive.

2. By the end of August there are still many cells of old potatoes. Most drive these potatoes onto the land. 1 farmer delivers them to the factory. After they have been washed, they handle fine. The new crop of potatoes is very expensive and is not yet at the right underwater weight. The farmer complains to the buyer that his potatoes are worth nothing. The potatoes look really bad. But washing and sorting works fine. The farmer only asks for half the market price. There had been more residents. The factory is trying to buy them all. The farmer does not charge extra for the second delivery. The factory is trying to buy more old potatoes. Unfortunately, all have already driven onto the land.

3. A French fries factory produces wedges for a customer. And needs 35 mm to 50 mm potatoes for this. No farmer has this size, the factory has to supply wedges. They buy chips potatoes and push the large potatoes into the rest of the stream. Dear farmers, this really could have been profitable.

What a bad example...and what are you trying to tell us...agree with you that something needs to change.

What a VERY good example

It's SO it works in the fries factory

Dear Pete,

Your story is fun to read. But if I see what simple language mistakes you make, then I can't take your story seriously. Eg he produces, he tries, he delivers. Outrageous language errors.
ron 7 November 2017
You don't just make up stories like Piet's.
I think such things are a pity for you potato growers.
Lieut Veenhuizen 7 November 2017
Geuste Kartoffel, that's something..... bit about language errors....
Not everyone is literary Geuste...
By the way, if you use abbreviations like e.g. then you have to put an end to it eh....... that's how it works in linguistics.....
Bit of a shame these kind of comments.....
