Farmers get 8,8 million euros in crisis money back

29 November 2017 - Bart-Jan van Zandwijk

The European Commission (EC) must repay €433 million to European farmers. This money was reserved for crisis payments and has not been paid out. The European Commission reported this on Monday 27 November 2017.

For the Netherlands, this concerns an amount of €8,8 million. The reimbursement of the budget will start from December 1, 2017.

Refund by EU
Despite critical situations in 2017, such as bad weather conditions, this money was not used. The support measures needed in 2017 have been financed from the existing budget and from derogations from certain conditions of the greening payment.

Farmers are annually reduced by a percentage on their payment entitlements† That money is reserved for crisis situations, the so-called financial discipline. The refund of this money only goes to the farmers who receive more than €2.000 in direct payments.
