If it's up to a specially formed review panel in the United States (US), Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto could go ahead without a hitch. It sees no threat to national security in the country. Both companies announced the news on Friday, December 1.
In a joint press release Bayer and Monsanto announce that CFIUS, the Committee of Foreign Investment in the United States, has given the green light to acquire the chemical manufacturer. This involves an amount of $66 billion. With the approval, Bayer hopes the transaction can close in early 2018.

The acquisition creates the world's largest seed and chemical giant. Three more large companies will soon be active in the sector: Dow DuPont, ChemChina-Syngenta and Bayer-Monsanto. The latter announced in September 3 that they would merge. It aims to combine Monsanto's digital seed power with Bayer's crop protection expertise.
