The turnover of agricultural mechanization companies and the dairy industry rose sharply in the third quarter of 2017. This is evident from figures published by Statistics Netherlands on Tuesday 5 December.
Statistics Netherlands announced the turnover of the total Dutch wholesale trade. This increased on average by 3,5%. Turnover rose in particular at dairies, traders in agricultural machinery and suppliers to industry.
Especially from dairy
In the dairy industry, the higher milk price in particular resulted in more turnover, an increase of 24%. In addition, agricultural machinery dealers recorded a 15,2% increase in turnover. This was mainly due to the increasing demand for agricultural implements from abroad.
However, sales of agricultural products fell by 5,2%. Wholesalers in fruit and vegetables suffered from the decline in exports. Turnover in the fruit and vegetable trade shrank by 7%.
