No new infections

Bird flu Biddinghuizen stands on its own

11 December 2017 - Esther de Snoo

The bird flu outbreak on a duck farm in Biddinghuizen is an isolated incident. This is the conclusion of a study by the Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) will announce this on Monday 11 December.

There was talk of a national confinement obligation, but this has been scaled back to a transport arrangement in the affected area.

Bird flu diagnosed
On Friday, December 8, a poultry farm in Biddinghuizen (Flevoland) a highly contagious variant of bird flu was found. On the basis of this, the Ministry of LNV instituted a national confinement obligation. This has been canceled since Monday 11 December.

Other poultry farms were investigated within a radius of 3 kilometers from the infected farm. No new infections have emerged from this. The ministry has therefore a corridor opened within a zone of 10 kilometers from the affected company. This corridor makes it possible to transport chicks, manure and eggs in the area again.
