Over 2017

Wages in the agricultural sector rose the fastest

4 January 2018 - Wouter Baan

Collectively negotiated wages in the agricultural sector rose the fastest of all sectors in 2017. On average, the employee in the Netherlands improved by 1,5%, according to figures from the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

Wages in the Netherlands rose less rapidly in the past year than in 2016, when the average wage increase was still 1,8%. It is striking that the picture in the agricultural sector deviates from the national average.

Improved collective labor agreements
Employees in the agricultural sector realized a wage increase of 2017% in 2,3. In 2016 the wage increase, with a plus of 0,9%, was below the national average. The sudden progress in 2017 is mainly due to improved collective labor agreements in livestock farming and greenhouse horticulture.

Average wages in the Netherlands are expected to rise further in 2018. Employers' organization AWVN assumes an average increase of 2,14%.
