Financially disadvantageous

'Asbestos removal is postponed too long'

22 February 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn - 26 comments

"Asbestos removal has been postponed for too long, while now is an opportune time to take action," Accon avm said in a press release. The moment is favorable, because from 2024 a general asbestos ban on roofs will apply.

"It is not wise to wait too long before removing asbestos. This is because construction and maintenance costs quickly rise due to the improving economy. The agendas of the asbestos remediation companies are also becoming full," reports Harm Jan Schipper, advisor at Accon. avm. "It is mainly financially beneficial to start maintenance now."

11,3

million

euro subsidy available

Accon avm reports that the number of entrepreneurs who have already carried out maintenance is very limited. More than three quarters of the asbestos roofs are owned by farmers. "We see that many entrepreneurs postpone maintenance until time is running out. Others spread it out over the years," says Schipper.

Financial advantage
According to Accon avm, the buildings in question are in some cases still in good condition, but the premiums for insuring the buildings with asbestos can quickly add up. "It is sensible to visualize what asbestos removal can mean for a company, also financially. For example, in 2018 there will again be €11,3 million in subsidies available for the removal of asbestos (a maximum of €25.000 per address). Skipper said.

Maintenance or improvement
The asbestos ban obliges farmers to invest in old buildings. Some farmers are therefore immediately taking a more thorough approach, for example by improving insulation and ventilation. However, this can have different tax consequences, because there is a difference between maintenance and improvement of the roof.

"Distribution of the costs always yields a financial advantage with major renovations, and the associated application of regulations. By acting now, the farmer can therefore benefit from tax. This with the small-scale investment deduction, the energy investment deduction or VAMIL scheme." close Skipper.

It's a shame that this is being reprinted. If the robbers want this, they have to pay for it. Nobody should remediate, let the robbers fix this, they want to continue this. The little money that is left in the wallet is continuously knocked out. Many farmers, not to mention citizens, simply cannot afford it. So people unite and then we determine what happens and not the other way around.

one thing is often forgotten, in 6 years the remediation and sealing will probably be more expensive, but compared to now you also have a new roof, while if you replace it now it will be 2024 years old in 6

I have just learned that our water supply network has processed a lot of asbestos, does anyone know more about this?
WW 22 February 2018
Nationally, about 30 percent of water pipes are made of asbestos cement. An AC pipe consists of a mixture of 80 percent cement and 20 percent asbestos. Removing and disposing of AC pipes carries the risk of coming into contact with asbestos. In this toolbox you will be informed ...

so asbestos particles come along with the water, which I drink, do the laundry and then in the dried state sniff this all day long with clothing and bedding

why are the factories not held liable, after all, they have supplied us with that rubbish of asbestos and we have to clean it up and if the government took care of the dumping then we would have come a long way.
accountant 22 February 2018
that subsidy will really remain if it were to be stopped in 2 years, everyone waits until 2024, asbestos from roofs is also not very dangerous asbestos and do not let yourself be turned off by asbestos remediators,
Paul 23 February 2018
2024 will of course not work, 2030 seems more obvious to me. The capacity of the remediators is simply not large enough.
Leonardo lll 23 February 2018
Why does no one come up with the idea of spraying bitumen or the like over it, that binds the fibers and seals the roof. Cheap and effective.
R sibma 23 February 2018
Another bread-eating prophet who, consciously or out of stupidity, does not know that the date of 2024 is not yet fixed. The cabinet has yet to make a final decision.
Pete 23 February 2018
The problem is the insurance, they will stop insuring roofs after 2024, so if you have fire or storm damage and the asbestos is in your neighbour's garden...........

Maas 23 February 2018
The problem is that insurers no longer insure. Unless you are going to remediate within the next two years. We will have to. Suppose a fire breaks out, the damage cannot be foreseen if this is not insured. Premiums will not go down anyway, given the barn fires last year...
peter 23 February 2018
Premium paid for 10 years and if insurance suits political proposals, they no longer want to pay to clean up asbestos in the event of damage. Who gives the insurance this right? That's how you stupid peasants keep getting cheated!
Jan 23 February 2018
A roof on a stable, etc. is a business asset. And you write off a business asset and reserve it for replacement. The roofs are now at least 24 years old and 2024 years old in 30. In addition, if you shout "subsidy" to farmers, everything collapses. Practically everything has been built with cheap loans and subsidies from the government or Europe. Don't whine anymore, start cleaning up!

Maas, great that those criminals no longer want to insure, saves a lot of premium, for example you can go on winter sports with the whole family for 4 weeks, including company care. Every evening at the Austrian snitzels. That's the good life. They can die from me, all those corrupt officials.

Dear Jan,

It would of course be crazy that everything that has been written off has to go, this is the world upside down

Comment on another site. Civil servants in the broadest sense are figures just like pigeons: on the ground they eat from your hand and in the air they shit on your head. Beautifully worded, congratulations to the creator.

Dear Jan.
Can you substantiate your claim with numbers?
Or do you just say something

For all those know-it-alls: It is still not law, according to Vee en Gewas. So. It's all a money grab and nothing else.
Don Q 25 February 2018
Having a new roof installed does not mean that you will be asbestos-free in the event of a fire. The entire barn is full of asbestos, so in the event of a fire, asbestos will still be found. The government came up with these jokes during a crisis to stimulate the economy. It would have been better if they had started building housing for young starters, then the housing shortage would have been less high and house prices would have been the same.

With regard to the roofs, it is better to leave the choice to the entrepreneur, when the roof becomes bad, an entrepreneur will replace it automatically. The subsidy story is then less necessary, there is less work for the remediators, so the remediation costs will decrease. If the government now increases the subsidy, the sanitation companies will add the same amount to the costs.
Gerard 25 February 2018
Just got everything off, insurer canceled the policy and no new ones wanted to insure our company with asbestos roofs. Had two months.... With more time I might have considered closing the business. Let's be honest, if you can't financially replace roofs of 25-50 years, it's better to stop and do something else. Always walking towards family and others chagrining is a dead end.
threesome 25 February 2018
Make sure you have the buildings containing asbestos in a separate BV.
Then let the tie boys come, in extreme cases they can take the building with them.
of platings 26 February 2018
Gerard, it's going to cost me a sloppy 100.000 euros, those smooth asbestos remediators have counted out. And yes, I have this money, and most of it not on the shelf. Nothing wrong with it. And that's because some stupid official made this up, because he had nothing better to do. Turn it around. Every citizen / official must replace his kitchen within 5 years because, for example, I do not like the color. This is exactly the same. The world would be too small. Furthermore, farmers have become so stupid by now, because when an official shouts something in a fit of madness, most frightened farmers immediately follow this order. So most farmers have already become sad people.
Gerard 26 February 2018
Went for more than a ton including new roofs. I didn't have it on the shelf either, but I already had acquaintances between the shelves because of asbestos. It is not for nothing that it was banned in 1992, 26 years ago now. You can continue to curse at everyone and everything, but is that a relief?
of platings 26 February 2018
Gerard, Let's end this discussion. Too bad you're such a slavish person. When an officer calls out, you immediately stand to attention. Sad people.
French 26 February 2018
Better stress-free adequate business like Gerard than chronically grumpy like Vanplatingen.
Jan 16 March 2018
@vanplating. Pay attention! This discussion is not going to end any time soon and that is up to you too. I also recognize that there are farmers who run into (financial) problems. This may be because there is no follow-up or because there is no reservation (no money). If there is no money, it means that a bad business has been committed. And in the event of a company closure, the taxpayer pays for it, the so-called Jan with the cap (or others). If this isn't right or if you don't agree with me, just explain it to me. As the owner of a building with materials containing asbestos, you are also the owner of the asbestos. Once upon a time, you or your predecessor had an economic reason to put asbestos-containing siding on your buildings. This was not forced on you, but was your independent choice. This asbestos-containing roofing is now almost at least 30 years old and this roofing now releases asbestos fiber to the environment (simplistic). Since 1994, approximately 48.000 people, Dutch, have died from an asbestos-related disease. You talk about "smooth remediators" and "stupid officials", but shouldn't that be smooth farmer (subsidy) and stupid farmer (head in the sand)?
@Gerard. respect!
