Less electricity from biomass

Significantly more wind energy generated in 2017

2 March 2018 - Wouter Baan - 1 reaction

The generation of electricity from renewable energy increased by 2017% in 10. The generation of wind energy in particular increased considerably, while less electricity is being produced from biomass. This is apparent from preliminary figures from Statistics Netherlands.

Wind energy production increased by 16% last year to 9,6 billion kilowatt hours (kWh). The increase is mainly due to the expansion of wind farms in 2016. In 2017, the capacity of wind energy remained more or less the same. Of the total wind capacity, 3,2 thousand megawatts is on land and barely 1.000 megawatts at sea.

More sustainable energy
The production of solar energy increased from 1,6 to 2,1 billion kWh. In contrast, the share of renewable energy from biomass decreased by 6% to 4,7 billion kWh. On balance, the share of sustainably generated energy, relative to total energy consumption, rose by 1,3 percentage points to 13,8%.

"energy consumption" should be "electricity consumption". So no "On balance, the share of sustainably generated energy, relative to total energy consumption, increased by 1,3 percentage points to 13,8%" but "on balance, the share of sustainably generated energy, relative to total electricity consumption, increased by 1,3, 13,8 percentage points to 2016%". It is also not only due to the new wind turbines from the second half of 30 (Gemini wind farm 600 kilometers above Ameland -2017 MW-), but the wind was blowing slightly harder in 2016 than in XNUMX.

The sustainability of these sources of "renewably regenerated energy" must first prove itself. Manufacturing a windmill costs more energy than it will deliver in its lifetime, and is more expensive per kWh than it costs to supply oil. Give the Dutch farmer such a chance!
