Supermarket chain Emté, which is part of wholesale company Sligro, has been taken over by Jumbo and Coop. The chain consists of 130 branches. The Meat Plant in Enschede (Overijssel) has also been sold.
Supermarket chain Emté, with mainly branches in Gelderland, has been sold for €410 million. Emté has 130 branches, a distribution center in Putten (Gelderland) and a head office in Veghel (North Brabant). The supermarket chain, which achieved a turnover of €828 million last year, employs 6.200 people. They will be employed by Jumbo and Coop.
Run of the year
The parties expect to complete the sale in the course of this year. About 2/3 of all Emté stores will become a Jumbo branch, the rest will continue as Coop. The stores will be converted soon. It is unclear whether the name Emté will be maintained. This is expected to happen. The market share is 2,5%.
Emté was founded in 1965 from butcher shops in Waalwijk and the surrounding area.
