Letter Minister Schouten

Shortened cultivation of catch crops already possible in 2018

5 March 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) announced that the reduction of the minimum cultivation period for catch crops to 8 weeks will already be permitted in 2018. Schouten announced this in a letter to parliament.

The shortened cultivation period was expected to take effect in 2019. This is because any changes to the implementation of the greening must be reported no later than 1 August prior to the year of entry into force (in this case August 2017).

Previously became RVO already announced that this reduction will be allowed for the catch crops that are sown directly with the main crop.

Comply with Ecological Focus Area
To receive the greening premium from the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP), arable farmers must meet the requirement of an Ecological Focus Area. This can be completed by growing a catch crop.

Schouten will now adjust the Direct Payments Implementation Regulations as soon as possible.
