Decision Cosun

Beet tourism allowed with sufficient sowing

9 March 2018 - Anne Jan Doorn

Cosun members may apply beet tourism, provided they sow enough. This has been decided by Cosun's board of directors.

According to the regulations, it is not allowed that growers who cannot deliver their quota full, supplement the supply with beet from other locations. During the last beet campaign, however, this option was given to growers who (due to problems) were unable to supply their own quota full.

The basic principle remains that the grower grows his own beets

Own responsibility
The basic principle is and remains that each member grows its own beet, but beet tourism is now officially allowed. "However, it is only allowed if a grower has sown enough. A grower can get beets from elsewhere during the campaign in case of problems with their own harvest," Cosun said.

Whether sufficient seed has been sown is determined on the basis of the average yield in the last 5 years. The best and worst year are omitted.

No consequences
It has become less important for growers to supply the full quota. This is because it no longer affects delivery rights. Members are also allowed to make agreements prior to the growing season about the cultivation of their beets on plots outside their own company.
