With regard to cattle fraud

Schouten returns to harsh words

10 March 2018 - Esther de Snoo - 15 comments

Minister Carola Schouten (Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality) regrets the harsh words she has used regarding the fraud with the registration of cattle. "I underestimated the impact of bringing this out myself."

Schouten says in a interview with the Volkskant that it should have been more alert to communication about the gaps in the Identification and Registration System (I&R). "An image was created in which there would be large-scale fraud, I should have been more alert to that." She states that she should have been more aware of how her words came across.

Conscious
Schouten refers to the words 'tampering', 'cheating' and 'unacceptable fraud'. She used those words when it came out in January that the calf records of 2.100 farmers did not appear to be in order. Schouten also says in the interview that at that time she could only see that the livestock registration of the more than 2.000 cattle farmers was incorrect. "You see outliers, but you don't know if it's an unconscious mistake or if it was done deliberately."

Not her intention
Schouten also says that it was not her intention to brand the entire sector as fraudsters. "If there is the impression that I have put an entire sector in a bad light, that was not my intention in the least. I really hope that my intentions are not doubted."

Schouten also states that she has acted as required by law. "Technically I had no other choice, then they have to give me another law."

I hope there will be another real apology, at the very least we deserved it.
Is she going to Brussels with this story now?

Little dumb, she was a little dumb.....
Schouten also says that it was not her intention to brand the entire sector as fraudsters.
Then what???? 7700 farmers mess', 'cheat' and commit 'unacceptable fraud' That's about half!!!

But she will continue with the witch hunt for farmers, conflicting chatter major.

According to that law that she is talking about, every resident of the Netherlands is innocent until proven otherwise, so there is only question of a fraud within the meaning of the law if there is legally conclusive evidence.

will this also be in news hour and the news?

don't think it know-it-all we only appear in the media with negative news, the finger can be pointed again

She is no more than a doll, she has received this information from managers of the NVWA. The NVWA now therefore needs the dust comb.

Look at the bright side of life. We can keep on grumbling, but you better count your blessings. Lives a lot more relaxed. in short, be happy with her commitment

Always easy afterwards, I'm glad she at least admits that what she said was premature, but at the same time I think she's done damage to the entire industry.
Think, for example, about the reaction to derogation, but also about not allowing the trial with the cycle indicator.
Politicians should be more aware that everything you put out is presented by the media as a sensation, and that there are always innocent victims and in this case a lot of them.
The fact that there has now been an enormous blunder at the official level, miscommunication between the systems, etc. is already being discussed less.
We have learned that you are innocent until proven otherwise, keep that in mind from now on in The Hague..
Maybe in the other EU countries you should also delve into the I&R system, I'm curious what will come to light there....

Agree with chose, it's Carola's credit. Be happy with her and women are more likely to create a problem than men.

Fine, a soft answer turns away the grimness.
Now let's pray and hope that we will not be stripped financially.

I am not convinced, there is also a so-called manure fraud waiting to be put into perspective and I have not heard much about that exaggerated fuss about the roadside fraud in Berkelland...
Carola has to make it clear that the agricultural sector is heavily monitored and sanctioned by the NVWA and RVO in case of violation of the law. So that farmers do not want to commit fraud, except for a number of die-hards, they must detect and tackle them, otherwise they must not exaggerate!
Her civil servants system is in need of a major cleaning, there are people who are sabotaging things and peddling half-truths.. That's a shame!

make rules based on facts and not on assumptions. and punish the officials of rvo lnv and nvwa who are also responsible for the fraud, just like the farmers who committed fraud, because they are responsible for the image damage.

I was very annoyed from the start how everyone was scolding 'the fraudsters' by everyone... This does not change the fact that I am convinced that Carola Schouten will be the best minister of agriculture in many years! Just wait....

Nice that an apology has been offered, but where are the apologies of the lnv rvo and the nvwa and reporting this in the 20.00 NOS news shows the farmers in a positive image.
