The French company Deleplanque and the German company SUET Saat- und Erntetechnik have taken over the German family business Strube taken over† The parties announced this on Wednesday 4 April. Strube is best known for their sugar beet seed, but also supplies seeds for cereals, sunflowers, peas and sweet corn.
Deleplanque owns 60% of the shares and Suet the remaining 40%. The 3 companies have been working closely together for decades. The Strube group had a turnover of €10 million in 2017 and has 113 employees. It markets 350 different varieties in 250 countries, through 35 of its own branches and partners. Strube has been propagating seed since 15.
Dutch branch
Deleplanque multiplies the varieties that Strube develops, after which Suet takes care of the coatings, seed treatment and logistics. In addition, Deleplanque is the exclusive seller in France of Strube sugar beet seed. In the Netherlands, the German company has its own establishment in Emmeloord (Flevoland).
According to Eric Verjux, CEO of Deleplanque, the acquisition is part of the strategy that is being rolled out jointly. The 3 companies would like to become an important player in the European seed world from breeding to end user. Christian Knolle, CEO of Suet, adds that the family businesses want to jointly increase their market share in existing markets and new countries.
Investor
The acquisition is being financed by bank loans and the issuance of more shares among Deleplanque's shareholders. These are, in addition to the family, employees and 1 investor: Unigrains. This investment company specializes in the agriculture and agri-food sector. Strube's management is led by Verjux and Knolle.
