Bayer's acquisition of Monsanto has been approved by the US Department of Justice, Wall Street Journal reports. The US Department of Justice is clearing the final hurdle to the $66 billion mega-deal.
At the end of March, the European Commission already permission for the amalgamation of the chemical and seed group, which is already popularly referred to as 'Baysanto'. According to the Wall Street Journal, the US Department of Justice has now also granted permission. The government had reservations about the takeover last month.
In order to make the takeover possible, both companies must meet a considerable set of requirements. For example, Bayer sells its seed business to BASF. A Monsanto and Bayer spokesperson declined to tell the WSJ whether there is indeed a green light from the US side.
Value increase
Despite no official confirmation, Monsanto's shares rose sharply after the news broke. The share price rose 7,6% per share. According to the company, the official acquisition will take place in June.
