Partners running a business together. This is much more common in the agricultural sector than in other sectors. This is apparent from a study by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS). Dairy farmers in particular like to work together with their partner.
In 2015, there were more than 124.000 companies where the owners are each other's tax partners, Statistics Netherlands reports. Of all sectors, the agricultural companies were most often run by couples, namely 1/3 of the companies. In second place is the hospitality sector, with a couple at the helm at 1/4 of the companies.
Top 10
The agricultural sector is good for 4 places in the top 10 of companies with couples at the top. Dairy farming in particular appears to be an excellent sector to work with your partner. With 9.590 companies, the dairy farmers are head and shoulders above the rest.
In fourth place are the growers of vegetables and tubers (4 companies). Cattle farmers without dairy cattle are in 3.300th place, with 7 farms. The pig farmers are last in this top 2.120 with 10 companies.
Tax partners
According to Statistics Netherlands, tax partners are couples who have a registered relationship. They are married, have a registered partner or have a cohabitation contract. Joint ownership occurs most often under the legal form Company under Firm (VOF) (more than 75.000). This form of cooperation is also known as the man-woman firm. In more than 90% of the cases, it concerns companies that employ fewer than 10 people.
