Feed group South sold a fraction less feed in 2017 than in the previous year. Turnover also declined; by 15% to €235 million. At the bottom of the line, however, the cooperative has considerably more left over.
According to director Wim Maaskant, Feed group South charted a new course for 2017. The focus of the cooperative is on animal feed activities as well as on non-agricultural activities (such as retail and insurance). Both the insurance and retail branches made a positive contribution to the result.
However, the feed volume shrank by about 14.000 tons to over 788.000 tons; in its own words as a result of shrinking markets. The number of members, on the other hand, increased by 7 members to 849. Despite shrinking sales, net profits more than doubled to $755.000.
Further shaping the organization
Maas side informs us that Voergroep Zuid has made significant strides in the past year. In the coming years, the company wants to strengthen the chosen course with a focused organization, whereby further efficiency gains are made. From the cooperative ideology, the interests of the farmer remain paramount, Maaskant assures.
