Arable farmers in a number of European member states may qualify for a derogation. The European Commission (EC) recently decided. After a wet autumn and winter, it has not always been possible to sow the crops in time. As a result, not every company complies with the 3-washed rule.
Polish agriculture minister Krzysztof Jurgiel asked the Commission for a derogation for arable farmers in the country. It was awarded on Monday 30 April. Farmers in Denmark, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and Finland are also eligible for derogation from the greening requirements.
wet autumn
Under the Common Agricultural Policy, farmers are obliged to meet greening requirements. For this, at least 3 crops must be grown. The heavy rainfall in Poland, which fell between August and October, meant that winter grain and rapeseed could not be sown everywhere. Crops have also been lost due to the wet conditions. This also applies to other European countries.
There are a number of rules attached to the derogation. For example, at least 30% of the total area of winter cereals must be affected (per company). As a result, the rules differ per entrepreneur.
Ireland and United Kingdom
Also in the United Kingdom and Ireland sounds click to drop the 3-wash rule. However, the country is not mentioned in the list of countries that have received derogation.
